Eiffel Tower

Historical review:

The Eiffel Tower was initially proposed to Barcelona.

The French engineer Gustave Eiffel submitted his project to the Paris City Council, because Paris was the place of the next Universal Exhibition in 1889. They agreed to build the tower, although at first they thought that it would be dismantled once the exhibition finished. Thanks to the scientific experiments that Eiffel encouraged its demolition was prevented.

The structure construction began in 1887 to serve as the entrance arch to the Exhibition, which commemorated the centenary of the French Revolution. The tower was inaugurated on 31st March 1889, and was opened to the public on 6th May of that year. It has a height of 300 meters
